In the early hours of the day, before the city hums to life, Bebek Roy is already on the move. At 24, the former state-level badminton player from Siliguri, West Bengal, understands that success is not just about the final score. It is about the preparation that happens when no one is watching. Today, his ‘court’ is the Flipkart supply chain at the delivery hub in the foothills of the Himalayas.
Here, he plays a key role in logistics. With discipline and dedication, he proves that an athlete’s stamina is the perfect engine for a career in India’s fast-paced e-commerce world. While ensuring that deliveries are ready to go when the day begins, he also nurtures a bigger dream.
Carrying an Athlete’s Discipline into the Heart of Flipkart’s Supply Chain

My day doesn’t start at the office – it starts at 5:00 A.M. Discipline is a habit I carry over from my days playing state-level badminton as well as cricket and football. Even though I no longer play competitively, that athletic clock still runs inside me.
My daily commute is a 15-kilometer bike ride that takes me about an hour each way. Some people ask me why I do not use a motorized vehicle. For me, those 30 kilometers of daily cycling are about more than a commute. They are about fitness, fresh air, and starting my shift with a clear mind.
Taking Ownership at the Hub: Managing Metrics, Parcels, and People
I started as a Flipkart Sorter eight months ago. I was eager to learn, not just about the job but the way e-commerce works. My friends who referred me to this job assured me that this was a place where there would be opportunity for growth. They were right. I worked hard, learned the metrics, and was soon promoted to Hub Assistant.
My responsibilities now are diverse. I arrive early for a team huddle with the Wishmasters and make sure they are all ready. Then I check critical emails and audit cancelled parcels to ensure our operations stay tight.
A big part of my job is training our Wishmasters. This includes teaching them to handle open-box deliveries and communicating with customers.
Beyond the Hub: Finding Strength in Mountains, Miles, and Momentum

My life is defined by the hours I spend within the hub and outside of it. Even after a full shift at the hub, I maintain energy. All it takes is shifting gears.
On my weekly off, I take my cycle into the mountains, often riding up to Tindharia, which is a rigorous 2.5- to 3-hour journey. My most memorable feat was cycling all the way to Darjeeling when I was only in the 8th grade – which took nearly 7 hours of persistent effort.
To keep my stamina high, I run 6 to 8 km daily at a nearby school ground after I have had some rest from the morning shift. Beyond physical endurance, I find balance through motovlogging, art, and playing sports like football, carrom, and table tennis.
I believe that fresh air and the challenge of the climb are good for the soul. Whether I am
navigating a steep mountain road or managing a complex shipment, it is important to give my best. The principle remains the same: you take breaks when you need them, but you never stop moving toward the summit.
Turning Experience into Enterprise
Working behind the scenes in Flipkart has changed how I see the system. I used to be just a customer ordering shoes and clothes. But now, I see the massive effort it takes to keep the Flipkart supply chain moving.
But my ambitions do not stop at the hub. In the evenings, after I finish my shift and my workout, I study. I am working toward a very specific dream: to restart my father’s batasha (sugar candy) business, which is currently closed.
I want to use the skills I am learning here, such as handling shipments, managing people, and understanding metrics, to build a stable future for my family. I believe that if you have the will and the heart to keep learning, there is no limit to how far you can go.
