In a large fulfillment center, growth is measured in more than shipments. It is seen in the people who learn new roles, lead larger teams, and find ways to make work more accessible for others. At Sanpka, that growth takes place alongside an operation built for scale, with 3,800 employees across its fulfillment and sort operations, including more than 1,000 women and 34 eDAB (Ekartians with Disabilities) employees.

The facility processes around 2.15 lakh shipments a day, with systems such as automated guided vehicles, robotic systems, and conveyor belts helping move products from receiving and processing to dispatch. But behind that scale are people like Himanshu, who grew into leadership; Sonu, who built a career in sign language interpretation; and Deepak, who found stability in a specialized role. Their stories offer a closer look at the people who keep Sanpka moving—and the different ways a career can grow within it.

Himanshu Sharma: Growing Through Every Opportunity

My name is Himanshu Sharma. I am 27 years old and come from Khudana, a small village in Haryana’s Mahendragarh district. I completed my schooling after my family moved to Gurgaon and went on to finish a Bachelors in Computer Application from Maharshi Dayanand University in Rohtak. I later completed my Masters in Computer Applications from Gurgaon University. I joined Flipkart in 2021, and I have recently completed five years with the company.

Flipkart was already a well-known name when I was in college. Many students around me wanted to work here. I eventually learned that there was a fulfilment center in my area and approached the HR team, and I was hired. I started at the Bilaspur Fulfillment Center.

My first few roles taught me how the operation worked from the ground up. Later, I moved to the Flipkart Sanpka team as the first employee in the picking department. I was handling the complete department, with around 400 people working with me. That was a big responsibility. You can manage 20 or 25 people relatively easily, but 400 is different. I had to learn to accept the scale, understand the problems and find a way to make things work.

That mindset has stayed with me. Through the Flip Ahead programme, I took examinations in 2022 and 2024, moving into team leadership in 2023 and then into my current role as an Assistant Manager in 2025. Today, I lead 10 employees at Sanpka, who manage their respective teams including hundreds of people. I support them in their projects, help solve their issues and work through more complex problems that can affect the wider operation.

For me, leadership is also about empathy. People often come to me because they believe I can help them solve a problem. I try to listen first and understand what is really happening. During busy periods, especially before The Big Billion Days, I also spend time with new employees and make sure they are trained properly. We hold huddles, ask how people are doing and try to understand the root cause of problems instead of asking them to simply manage through them.

My managers have also played a big role in my growth. My first manager helped me develop critical thinking and to look at problems differently. That helped me understand that sometimes the right solution comes from changing the way you see the problem.

My father taught me something similar when I was younger. Moving to Gurgaon was difficult because I did not want to leave my school and friends, but he told me that if I wanted to grow, I first had to learn to adapt to change. That lesson has stayed with me, including in my journey at Flipkart.

My parents are very happy with how far I have come. No one in my family had held a private-sector role at this level before. At home, I still enjoy the simple things. I watch action movies with my father and spend time with my mother in the kitchen while learning from her.

I have seen Flipkart grow from a much smaller operation to one processing around 600,000 units a day during The Big Billion Days. I want to keep growing here too. If I study further, I will choose computer science. And I want to earn a strong role at Flipkart through the work and time I continue to invest here.

Sonu Kumar: Finding a Career in Sign Language

My name is Sonu Kumar. I am 28 years old, from Meerut, Uttar Pradesh, and I have been working as a Sign Language Interpreter for four years at Flipkart. I completed my schooling in Uttar Pradesh, completed my Bachelor of Science at Delhi University, and then completed a diploma in Sign Language Interpretation.

I did not originally know that sign language could become a career for me. My older brother saw a course mentioned in a newspaper and told me that learning the language could be a plus point. I started studying in 2016 and completed the course in 2018.

My first job was teaching children at an NGO in Delhi. Later, I joined an e-commerce company and spent four years there before moving to Flipkart. A colleague told me about an interpreter requirement at Sanpka, and I joined because of that opportunity.

Today, I work with around 46 people at Sanpka. My work begins with the morning briefing. I explain their targets, what they need to receive and the information they need for the day. I work across different departments, and I support teams across the Fulfillment Center and Mother Hub.

The Big Billion Days are especially busy because more people join the operation, and I have to explain the processes to them. I have completed four BBDs so far. With more people joining, there is more to explain and more to keep track of, but that has become part of my experience here.

I also want to make the workplace easier for employees who rely on sign language. I have made sign-language videos before, and one of my goals at Flipkart is to create videos explaining processes so that employees can understand them and start their work more independently.

Sign language has also become part of my life outside work. I interpret at conferences and translate for people at courts and police stations. I continue to study and practise. I translate songs into sign language and have started making videos that I plan to share on Instagram. When I need to help someone outside work, I also have the support of my operations and HR teams.

There was a time when running was a big part of my life. I competed at the state level, but a couple of accidents ended my sports journey. That eventually led me toward sign language and a different career. I now live on my own near work, while my family remains in Meerut.

For me, there is always more to learn. I keep studying sign language, practising songs and looking for ways to make communication easier for the people I support.

Deepak Kumar: Building Stability Through a Skill

My name is Deepak Kumar. I am a 39-year-old from Pataudi. I have been living there with my family and travelling to work for more than a decade. I have spent around 10–12 years working with Flipkart.

I first heard about the opportunity in 2013, when I was at home after losing my previous job. A friend who worked as a security guard told me that Flipkart had opened an e-commerce operation in Bilaspur. I already knew the company because I used to order from the app, so I applied, gave the interview and was selected.

My earlier experience also helped prepare me for the work I do now. At my previous job, I trained as a BOPT (Battery Operated Pallet Truck) operator and completed the required licence process. When I joined Flipkart, I was able to use that experience here. The work has been steady, and it is close enough to home for me to travel every day.

What I like most about working at Sanpka is the stability. The work is good, my seniors cooperate and I have built strong relationships with people here. Some of the friends I worked with years ago have now moved into senior roles like assistant managers. Seeing them progress makes me feel proud. They still support me, and I am happy to see how far they have come.

At Sanpka, the job also requires a lot of responsibility. I operate equipment only within my designated area and don't let anyone else enter unless they need to. Every morning, I check the equipment, like the brakes and other important parts. I wear my helmet, safety shoes and safety jacket and make sure the area is safe before I move any material.

The Big Billion Days are a different experience. The workload increases, but so does the excitement. The sale comes close to Diwali, so there is a festive atmosphere around it. I also enjoy ordering things during the sale. I have ordered 10 washing machines for myself and my friends during sale times!

People in my neighbourhood also ask me about sales. I like being able to help them. The company also recognises employees during the sale period through rewards and recognition, which I have received several times.

Outside work, cricket is my biggest hobby. I still play with friends and relatives at the ground in Pataudi. We also encourage younger children to play and keep the tradition going.

Right now, I have one big personal goal. I want to build my own house. I am saving and investing towards it, and I am also putting the benefits and gift cards I receive through work towards that dream.

I have spent many years here, and I feel settled. I hope that people who have dedicated a large part of their lives to the company continue to receive recognition for the work they have done. That would make me proud.

From growing through different roles to building a stable livelihood, Himanshu, Sonu and Deepak show how differently a career can take shape at Flipkart. Sanpka runs due to a lot of moving parts, but it is people like them that hold it all together.
