Charging Ahead: How Electric Deliveries Fuel Prathamesh Chavan’s Dreams

Every day, Prathamesh Chavan travels about 10 kilometres from his home in Kolhapur to the Flipkart delivery hub, completes his deliveries in his designated area, and returns - all on a single charge of his electric vehicle.

For the past 3.5 years, he has been working as a Flipkart Wishmaster, balancing responsibilities at work, supporting his family, and steadily building savings through small, practical decisions. This is his story in his own words.

Balancing work, savings and family responsibilities: Prathamesh’s journey

I’m from Kolhapur, Maharashtra. I used to work at an ice cream shop for a year and half. For the last 3.5 years, I have been working as a Flipkart Wishmaster. I recently completed my Bachelors in Commerce along with my full-time job as a Wishmaster.

I come from a joint family. I live with my parents, my younger brother, my grandmother, and my uncle’s family. My father works as a driver, and my mother works in a bakery. My brother is still studying. During late 2022, I heard about the Flipkart Wishmaster role through someone I worked with earlier.

When I started work, I used a petrol vehicle for deliveries. I used to spend around ₹4000 every month on fuel and maintenance. Later, someone in my circle suggested that I consider switching to an electric vehicle. I thought about it and decided to go ahead. I bought an EV on a two-year loan, which I’ve now paid off.

On a typical day, I have around 80 parcels to deliver, and I usually complete around 75 of them. The rest carry over simply because customers aren't always home. During the Big Billion Days, the load increases to more than double - sometimes going above 150 parcels in a day. During that time, more delivery partners are also added in each area to manage the load. This helps us make sure every customer gets their order on time.

After switching to an EV, and despite doing my usual deliveries, my monthly spend came down to around ₹500-600. There’s also less maintenance, no noise, and no smoke. This change helped me save more consistently. I charge the vehicle at home, and even with about 50% charge, I’m able to complete my deliveries for the day. While we do have the facility to charge at the hub, I haven’t had to use it yet. My house is about 10 km from the hub, so I don’t need to charge outside.

With those savings and my income as a Wishmaster, I was able to support my family in clearing a loan of around ₹4 lakhs. This was an important milestone for me.

I’ve delivered across multiple areas in my region, and for the past couple of years, I’ve been delivering in the same route as my home. Customers here recognize me, take an interest to get to know me, and I have established a good relationship with them. This helps a great deal while delivering the orders.

I like working at my hub especially because whenever there are any challenges on ground, our team leaders are ready to support and help us find solutions.

Alongside work, I’ve also been exploring something I’m interested in - video editing. I’ve recently started working on shooting and editing, mainly bike videos and cinematic content with my friend. We travel to nearby locations for this. I’m not a professional yet, but it’s something I want to build further.

Working as a Flipkart Wishmaster has given me stability. This opportunity has helped me manage my responsibilities and also create space to think about what I want to do next.
