The women who take last-mile connectivity to new heights in Gangtok, Sikkim

In Gangtok, homes rest on slopes, staircases stretch endlessly, and monsoon rains test both balance and patience. Yet parcels arrive. Groceries reach kitchens. Essentials make their way home. The young men and women at Flipkart’s Gangtok delivery hub make this possible.

Team Lead Menuka Dorjee: Empowering Women on Every Delivery Route

My name is Menuka Dorjee. I am 26 years old and I am from Ravangla in South Sikkim. I have been working with Flipkart in Gangtok for the past 4 years now. I am currently a Team Lead at the hub. Gangtok is beautiful and peaceful, but working here requires strength. The city is built on hills. Many homes can only be reached by climbing steep stairs. Vehicles cannot access every area. That is why deliveries here are often done on foot.

During monsoon, the roads become slippery, but work does not stop. Customers still expect their parcels, and we make sure they receive them.

I feel proud seeing so many women in supply chain roles here. In many places, delivery work is seen as a man’s job. In Gangtok, women lead teams, manage operations, and handle routes confidently.

Before e-commerce services like Flipkart came to Sikkim, people had limited options. They had to travel far for basic things. Now groceries and essentials can be ordered from home. We are the link between that online order and the customer’s doorstep.

For me, this role is not just about managing deliveries. It is about showing other women that independence is possible. When I see women walking these hills with confidence, I see change happening quietly but strongly.

Manisha Rai: Making Space for Women in Logistics

My name is Manisha Rai. I am from Siliguri, and I have been working as a Team Lead at the Flipkart hub in Gangtok for the past 4 years.

When I first moved here, everything felt new. Gangtok’s terrain makes daily work different from other cities. Deliveries are not always about riding a vehicle. Many locations require climbing steep stairs and walking long distances. Managing operations in such conditions teaches you patience and planning.

At Flipkart, my role involves supervising deliveries, guiding associates, and ensuring parcels move smoothly from the hub to the customers. I coordinate routes, solve on-ground issues, and support the team whenever challenges arise. In the hills, even small delays can affect the entire day’s flow, so teamwork becomes very important.

I have seen how women in supply chain roles are steadily growing here. Earlier, delivery and logistics were seen as physically demanding jobs meant mostly for men. Today, women at our hub handle these responsibilities quite confidently. They walk difficult routes, manage customers, and maintain efficiency in operations.

What makes me proud is the sense of independence this job brings. Many young women working with us support their families or are building their own financial stability. The work is not easy, but it builds confidence.

For me, working at Flipkart is not just about meeting targets. It is about leading by example and proving that women can manage operations just as efficiently, even in challenging terrains like Gangtok.

Bisumit Lepcha: Delivering Parcels in the Hills and Supporting Family

My name is Bisumit Lepcha. I am from Damthang in Sikkim. My father is a farmer, and I moved to Gangtok to find work. I wanted to continue my studies, but since my father could not afford the fees, I decided to work to support my family.

I joined Flipkart as a Wishmaster, and this is my first job.

Delivery here means walking on steep roads and slippery paths during rain. It can be tiring, but I continue nonetheless.

I enjoy meeting customers and visiting new areas. I especially love delivering essentials to elderly customers; seeing them happy makes me feel satisfied with my work. Working at Flipkart has made me self-sufficient.

In our hub, I work alongside many women delivery associates. We share the same routes and responsibilities.

Chung Chung Bhutia: Delivering Through Rain and Rough Roads

My name is Chung Chung Bhutia. I have been working with Flipkart as a Wishmaster for seven years.

I work to support my family and help my brothers continue their studies. Delivery in Gangtok requires effort. We walk through steep and rough roads to reach customers.

Even during the rainy season, we make sure deliveries happen on time. When customers smile, we feel proud.

Here in Gangtok, many women work in delivery roles at Flipkart. We all face the same hills, and we all carry the same responsibility.

I am close to my family. If it was earlier, I probably would have had to move to a bigger city to find work. I am happy that opportunities now exist in my hometown - I can find employment, and continue to stay at home, with my family.

Bringing it Home, no Matter the Distance

In this hilly region, every parcel delivered is a small victory over the terrain. For Menuka, Manisha, Bisumit, and Chung Chung, and others at the hub, the steep climbs and rainy paths are part of the job. By showing up every day, these women do more than just delivering essentials - they prove that no slope is too steep to climb. In this quiet corner of the Himalayas, the landscape remains challenging, but the people moving through it have never been more determined.
